We should all be grateful for the professional way that teachers, faculty, law enforcement, and the community responded to the bomb threat today at Eagle Valley Elementary School. In speaking with some of the teachers it only took 3 minutes from the time that the evacuation orders were given until ALL students were out of the building. Eagle Valley Elementary had run an evacuation drill a week ago and practice evacuating the school. That is what led to the quick, orderly, and safe evacuation today.
I had the opportunity to thank many of the teachers that were still around and the principal for getting our kids out safely. Some of the teachers shed tears as I showed them the gratitude expressed by parents and the community on social media. Many of them had not been aware of the chatter on social media while this was still unfolding.
I thanked Principal Paula Tucker for getting our children out safely. She seemed so relieved that there was a peaceful end what could have been a tragic event. She was proud of the teachers and the staff that protected the students in a professional way.
Ultimately, there was not a bomb. But the masked man that made the threat and drove his graffitied car to the front door of the school had to be taken seriously.
