My last email to Republican Caucus Attendees in Legislative District 2, created the most activity of any of my emails in a while. Transportation and transportation options are very important to us in Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain.
I had many clarifying questions and feedback that I wanted to share because I think it useful information. Let me know if you have any additional questions. I also have a discussion thread about this on my web site at http://davidlifferth.ning.com/profiles/blogs/report-from-uta-frontr...
Q: Awesome! I am so stoked about the new bus routes! This is really too bad about not sending it to the city center. I felt like that would have been a great bridging tool between our two communities. Will there be more public input meetings about the stops on the #806?
A: The dates are listed on http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=UTA-Home-DecemberRouteProposals
Q: Oh and another question. Do you know how much it will cost to take the bus from EM to the Lehi FrontRunner station?
A: I'm sure it will follow the fare rates on http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=RidingUTA-PayingYourFare-Fares
Q: Thanks for the update! When does front runner start running?
A: Front Runner starts on December 10
Feedback: As far as I can see everything looks good. My only concern was having a stop near Westlake High School, because the traffic is so bad in the morning anyway. I also don't like the thought of transients or criminals being able to hop of the bus at the high school or close to it. … While I am aware that the majority voted to have the bussing, I would like to see the stops in well lit and well populated areas, such as the four corners. I would prefer for them not to be close to schools or parks where there are lots of children, or in remote or residential areas.
Q: The one question that I have is about transfers. Did they address this at all? For example, will the initial fare include the shuttle from Eagle Mountain to American Fork and from the Frontrunner station to North Temple or will there be three separate fares?
A: I found this on the RideUTA web site: The FrontRunner Round Trip ticket is considered valid fare for Bus and TRAX. The TRAX Round Trip ticket, however, is NOT considered fare for the bus and FrontRunner. This type of fare is good only on TRAX.
Q: I think the express route from EM and SS is currently 807. My understanding was that this would be changed into a connecting route to the train instead of going downtown. Is that not accurate anymore?
A: 806 is the express route that is currently providing a direct route from SS & EM to downtown salt lake. That route will become the ss to thanksgiving point route on December 10. A new route, 809, will be the Eagle Mtn to American fork front Runner station.
Q: Just a quick question: what percentage of the FrontRunner project is covered by government subsidies?
A: I don't know the exact percentage, but I am site the majority of the front Runner (I would guess 66%) is subsidized
Q: Do you know how much it will cost to take the bus from EM to the Lehi FrontRunner station?
A: I found this on the RideUTA.com web site: The FrontRunner Round Trip ticket is considered valid fare for Bus and TRAX. The TRAX Round Trip ticket, however, is NOT considered fare for the bus and FrontRunner. This type of fare is good only on TRAX.
Feedback: Wow, if that is true then my trip to work will be $4.80 round trip (Lehi to South Jordan) which would be beyond fantastic! I'll be riding that thing everyday. Seems too good to be true but here's hoping! Thanks for the info!
[My question back to him: How does that compare to your gas expenses for that same round trip?]
It would save me $1.76 per day, $35 a month.
Round Trip Weekly Monthly
FrontRunner $4.80 $24.00 $96.00
Car $6.56 $32.78 $131.13
Diff $1.76 $8.78 $35.13
Not bad. I'll take an extra few $$ a month and an hour of increased productivity per day!
Q: DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE BUS WILL PICK UP IN SSPRS?
A: From the maps that I have seen, there will be a pickup near the Smith's grocery store in Saratoga Springs and then Near the Harvest Meadow school.
Q: three questions:
Are half price senior fares available?
Is there a separate price for the shuttle or is that included?
Are their monthly discount cards both regular fare and senior fare?
Thanks for your representation at the meeting. This shows a lot of dedication on your part.
A: Here is a link to the UTA Fare page: http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=RidingUTA-PayingYourFare-Fares. Click on the Premium tab. There is a senior’s fare of $94.50. That appears to be about half of the regular fare. The shuttle busses are includes as is TRAX so that gives you full range of the Provo to Ogden system. There are additional seniors discounts that are on the Promotion page.
I hope that helps,
