I can’t reconcile Sen.Madsen & Rep.Anderegg’s financial reporting with what I have heard from Lobbyists

I can't reconcile Sen. Madsen and Rep. Anderegg's financial reporting with what I have heard from Lobbyists that donated to their campaigns to pay for them and their wives to go to Italy and Switzerland.  I will ask for an investigation to audit their financial reports.

In this post John Swallow era, these reporting requirements are very strict with the purpose of being open and transparent with the voters.

Social Media photos of the Anderegg's and Madsen's trip…

Senate District 13 Baseline Survey Results - November 2015

Baseline Survey for Senate District 13 Race

I paid Daryl Acumen to conduct an email survey to all email addresses that he has in Senate District 13 and 14. I wanted to get baseline result of potential and announced State Senate candidates before the end of 2015. Daryl has one of the largest cultivated voter contact lists in Utah County.  Daryl Acumen and Abby Coura are the two other data people in the state that I respect and I value their data. …

My policy on posting emails to me on the State Legislature public page

I have been looking forward to the opportunity to easily post my official emails to a public page on the internet. I have made great efforts to be open, transparent, and accessible to my constituents. I like to contrast that with the claims by the Obama administration to be the most open and transparent in history.

In my frequent emails and dialogues with my constituents I ask them if I can post their emails either with or without their names on my blog site. I do this to encourage…

Results of support for Advocacy Groups by the voters in Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain

I recently conducted a survey of the voters in Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain to see which advocacy groups they agree with and support. This was an interesting follow up to the the Scorecard that I posted that showed how the various advocacy groups rated my votes in the 2014 Legislative Session. This was a more complicated and time consuming survey that I usually…

Report on the defining legislation of 2014 Session: HB97, HB96, SB54, HB77, HB81, HB257, SB72

Top Bills

HB97 Limitation on Local Govt. “Dog Bill,” passed the house 41-30. I voted NO. This was an interesting bill that had all of the Democrats vote for it and then the Republicans split 50-50. For me this was a local control issue that bound the hands of Local City Officials and removed authority to set local ordinances.  Here is my blog with my public statement about this issue:…

My statements in opposition to HB97 to protect rights of specific breeds and dog owners.

I rise in opposition toHB97

I may be supportive of the goal of this bill in protecting specific dog breeds and dog owners.

As a former Mayor and City Councilor, I hated when the heavy hand of the federal govt, state govt., and county government told us what we could and couldn’t do in our own city’s ordinance and zoning

As a state we specifically allow for political subdivisions so that they can set their ordinances and zoning based on the needs of the voters, residents,…

My thoughts & observations on Utah Compact votes at Utah County GOP

The proposal to adopt the Utah Compact as part of the Utah County GOP platform failed with 95 in favor and 179 against. The press and democrats immediately jumped on vote and said that Utah C0unty Republicans are anti-immigrant.

The new immigration wording in the platform that was passed by a super majority of 167 in favor to 71 opposed.

However, I wanted to describe the reasons that I thought and heard that are reasons that Utah County Republicans did not support…

Should you be required to get trained before you can carry a gun?

I have asked similar questions about other rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights:

What if you had to get a Bachelors Degree in English before you could exercise your freedom of speech? No doubt, when you speak after you have a college degree you are more effective and eloquent. However, a requirement like that would stifle political debate.

What if you had to go to a government sponsored class on comparative religion before you could exercise your freedom of religion and…

Heartfelt thanks to my mentors

While I did make a number of “rookie mistakes” in my first session, I actually consider it to be a success. Of my bills that I sponsored and co-sponsored I had 99.5% of my fellow legislators vote in favor of my bills. I only had 3 votes against my bills for the entire session, all in the Senate and all were Democrats.

My bills to combat identity theft, extend 4th and 5th Amendment protections to the data in your car, and extend the creative range of…
