My son Charley and I had our pictures taken in front of the MLS All Star and Everton banners at the end of the game

We got to the game later that I like, only 10 minutes before the game started. I usually enjoy the Carnival Real, watch the team warm up, and visiting with soccer… Continue

Photo Blog:Horse-back tour of the Proposed Pole Canyon development

This evening, July 28, 2009, I got to take a horse-back tour of the proposed Pole Canyon development. It is important to get a first hand review of the site as well as a “lay of the land.” Jared Westiff and Todd McFarland gave a detailed description of the history of the White Hills development plus an outline of their proposal.

I was able to take my son Stephen on the 2-hour horse-back ride. Council woman Donna Burnham was able to… Continue

All Things Eagle Mountain:Eagle Mtn. Rec. Center

Producer Chase wrote:

Eagle Mtn. Rec. Center

"The council is pondering whether to put a rec center referendum on the fall ballot. On Tuesday, however, experts from VCBO Architecture predicted that a center half the size of Lehi's would run an annual deficit of $800,000. That's in addition to the cost of building it. A final figure hasn't been determined, but $7 million seems to be a minimum estimate." -Daily Herald

Chase's Take: Let's face it, a down economy,… Continue

SKY MOUNTAIN, RANCHES UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT: Sky Mountain in Hurricane and The Ranches in Eagle Mountain are now being managed by the same company that runs Sand Hollow in Hurricane and Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.

The cities of Hurricane and Eagle Mountain both approached Vanguard Golf Management about taking over their golf courses because of the "customer-friendly" reputation that Vanguard has established over the past eight years.

Blog: Should we put the $19 millon Bond for the EM Rec Center on the November Ballot?

Now that we know that there will be a projected annual budget shortfall of $800,000 for the proposed Recreation Center in Eagle Mountain, I need to know what visitors to my site think about including the $19 million Bond Election on November's Ballot.

The $800k shortfall is calculated on the amount of revenue the Recreation Center facility would generate minus what it would cost to run.

The $800k shortfall does not include any debt service on the $19 million bond. My quick… Continue

Blog: Results of Golf Course survey on my site

The following are the results of the un-scientific poll that I conducted on my site, DavidLifferth.com about the Ranches Golf Course proposal. The proposal was a controversial issue and it was passed in a split decision by the council, 3-2.

I voted in favor of Ames (Eagle Mountain Links, LLC) to donate the Ranches golf course "free and clear" to the city and to have Vanguard manage the course for 10 years and be resonsible for any losses. It is my hope that Vanguard, or someone else,… Continue

Blog: Bad news on the Recreation Center financials

Members of the city council had requested projected O&M (Operations and Maintenance) as well as financial projections for the proposed Recreation Center.

In a work session presentation yesterday, it was reported that the proposed Rec Center would have an $800k annual deficit. This is how much money the Rec Center would generate minus how much it would cost to run the facility. And this DID NOT include any debt service. In technical jargon the facility would only pay for 53% of… Continue

Blog: Golf course proposal approved by city council

In votes of 4-1, 3-2, 5-0, 3-2, and 5-0, the golf course donation and lease agreement with Vanguard and all of its complicated facets were appoved by the city council.

This has taken a long time and many hourse expended by many people. The debate tonight was intelligent and respectful. I am so greatful of intelligent, passionate, and prepared councilmembers that can arrive at and explain how each of us could arrive sometimes different decisions.
