The City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to require group homes to stay a minimum of one mile apart. So far, The Ark, a recently approved home for recovering substance abusers, is the only one in the… Continue

Wendi Baggaley's Blog from Utah County's Republican Convention 4/25/09

[Thanks Wendi!]

I came up with this recap of the convention to help educate the newly organized group, Timpanogos Republican Women. Even though most of you attended today's convention, I thought you might also appreciate this short summary of what happened. Please holler if you have any questions about what I wrote, or especially, please holler if I stated something incorrectly.

Thanks for all you do to move Republican principles forward in our area!

What a wonderful event to participate in! Today we had the ground breaking for Coop's Market. This is a 52,000 square foot Associated Foods grocery store that should open in 30 weeks.

I appreciated Steve Miner's comments on the importannce of free enterprise and the free market and heros like Phillip Cooper who take fiancial risks to provide goods and… Continue

Video Blog: Animation of Andrew's goal at Rio Tinto Stadium 4/11/09 ***Modem Alert: 5mb File**

One of the parents of of Andrew's team mates, Larry Gibson, had recorded a video sequence of Andrew's goal. I pieced this together in an animated GIF. I appreciate Larry sharing this photo with me.

You can clearly see the ball start toward the upper left corner of the goal, the keeper shift left, and then quickly respond and stretch to get the ball going into the upper right hand… Continue

The Most Trustworthy Dogs

By Amy Hempel

If you can't trust your own eyes, you need a wise ally. Hint: It has four feet, no hidden agendas, and the canine equivalent of a PhD.

"Trust the hours" goes a line from from Galway Kinnell's poem "Wait." "Haven't they / carried you everywhere, up to now?"

I have counted on time to restore my equilibrium when trust has been… Continue

SLTrib: Speak not ill of Eagle Mountain

Speak not ill of Eagle Mountain

Gloria Boberg, executive director of The Ark of Little Cottonwood Canyon, had a lot of hoops to jump through to land a group home for recovering addicts in Eagle Mountain.

But it seems one council member thought she needed to take one more step to satisfy the image-conscious northern Utah County community: Don't speak ill of the city.

"I don't want you to seek out every newspaper to tear down our community," Councilman Nathan… Continue

My son Andrew #39 was the hero at yesterday's double header soccer game

Andrew's High School (Lehi) Soccer Team got to play a double header with Real Salt Lake and DC United.

His team played against undefeated and Number 1 Ranked Copper Hills after Real Salt Lake beat DC United 2-1.

Andrew contributed to an assist in the first half by setting up a goal by driving to the goalie box then passing it off to a team mate who… Continue

Photo Blog: Eagle Mountain Easter Egg Hunt 4/11/09

Today I got to take my grand-daughter to the Eagle Mountain Easter Egg Hunt. She is only 16 months old, so she was too young to do too much, but it was very fun to watch her and her excitement at the activity.

There were thousands of people and thousands of eggs there as you can see from photos.

When the horn blew to signify that the Easter Egg Hunt had begun, my grand-daughter started walking out to the eggs. She put down her… Continue

Blog: Email from Chris Power about UTA Express Bus Service

To the City Council:

We voted sales tax for UTA to come to our neighborhood. This is now reality. Except for those that ride the bus, it is a nightmare. We have CITY BUSES, not the MCI EXPRESS BUSES.

We therefore cannot sleep – no place to rest your head and the ride is way to bumpy (the entire hour trip) to sleep.. we do not have WiFi service – which is promised on the EXPRESS buses.. and most upsetting of all, we are paying the PREMIUM PRICE of $162.00 per… Continue

Blog: Approval of the Ark of Eagle Mountain

As I stated last night, I clearly see the need for important services and rehabilitation that the proposed Ark of Eagle Mountain provides. I have spoken with a wide range of health care professionals and the reality is that our society needs to provide help for individuals that are suffering from these problems. I think that everyone on the council clearly sees and agrees with this very real need.

The city council has listened to 36 public comments about the proposed Ark of Eagle… Continue
