Subject: SB73 Please read
I'm not sure where to start this email to truly convey my situation, feelings, and opinions. We have many acquaintances in common, as I've been living and working in the Ranches for 15 years now. (I think we may have actually been in the same Ward, a few splits back)
To give you a little background, I was…Continue

Subject: Please Vote yes on SB73
I heard about your town meeting where the majority of attendants disapproved of SB73 before the amendments were made. I was not aware of the meeting or I would have been there with many of my friends and neighbors to support the bill.
My family has been personally affected by chronic illness.

Cathy Holt, who lives in Eagle Mountain had concerns about HB325 which makes major changes to the Government Services for the deaf in Utah. Cathy was very polite and courteous in sharing her concerns.
Cathy was able to sit with me on the House Floor and discuss not only HB325 but other legislation that was being debated yesterday.…Continue

While I do understand the objective of having sound judicial opinions and good judges, I disagree with this bill.
Just like with the state legislature, I want our judges to come from every background. I want judges to have a variety of life experiences.
I don't want judges limited to the narrow segment of society that has been able to graduate from law school.
We should open up the position of judges to everyone that is capable of making a good decision.

I had 2 groups of students from Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain participate in a rally against smoking at the Utah State Capitol. Both groups want the Utah State Legislature to raise the legal smoking age to 21.Continue

Representative Justin Fawson's attempt on Feb 17, 2016 to undo SB54 by amending Rep. Fred Cox HB69.
Subtracting out the 12 Democrats leaves a 30-30 split among voting Republicans.
I spoke in favor of Rep. Fawson's amendment and cited 2 important details of the SB54 that changed during the negotiation that should be grounds to reconsider that vote: The Non-Severability Clause was removed and the prohibition of paying signature gatherers was removed from the time of the…Continue

[Wendy Hart, who serves on the Alpine School District Board, and I have been discussing HB164, Educational Testing Amendments. She has given me permission to post her thoughts on my blog site.]
Please vote no on HB164 for the following reasons.
1. It allows end-of-year state tests to be used for individual student grades or grade promotion with no proof that the tests are valid or reliable or should even be used in such a fashion.
2. It creates possible…

Before I forget, I wanted to wish everyone a happy Valentines Day (tomorrow) and a happy Presidents Day (Washington and Lincoln) on Monday. I have lost my voice, so I am happy to have a long weekend to rest and be quiet for a couple of days.
Instead of doing a survey with a collection of responses to different bills this week, I would like to focus just on the 2 medical marijuana bills. I’m doing this to get a better sense of how the voters in my district view this important…Continue
was able to visit with the Student Government Class on Wednesday February 10th at the Utah State Capitol. We had a pizza party and my intern gave them a tour of the State Capitol. I was also able to have them recognized in the House Gallery. I challenged each member the Student Government Class to be prepared to some day represent our communities in the State Legislature.…Continue

There appears to be significant misunderstanding of HB225. This section of law is already on the books. I can't tell if this is an intentional misunderstanding or not.
My bill HB225 (http://le.utah.gov/~2016/bills/static/HB0225.html) makes changes to existing law that is already on the books in Utah. If you read HB225, only the underlined portions of the bill are what my proposed changes are. The rest of…Continue
