Google's Street View camera car hits a baby deer

There has been plenty of controversy about Google's steady, stealthy and meticulous street photography as it builds up street level photography for its Google Maps 'street view'. Back in July, the street view car was spotted by many eagle-eyes techies, but Google seemed to… Continue

Blog: Should EM pass an ordinance to allow elected officials to accept gifts or loans from developers?

I am sure that I know the answer to this question, but I want to ask the question anyway.

Should Eagle Mountain pass an ordinance that would allow elected officials to accept gifts or loans larger than $50 from developers or anyone else conducting business in the city? Should there be an exception to allow for financial distress of the elected official?

This seems absurd to me and to others that I have spoken with.

However, former Councilwoman Linn Strouse had… Continue

I am not sure if or when I may blog about the Linn Strouse article in the Daily Herald on Jan 25, 2009. I think that everyone feels sad for her and the situation that she is in. I will however correct the record and respond to inaccuracies in the article.

Blog: Congrats to the Undefeated, Sugar-Bowl Champion, University Of Utah Utes!

While I am a BYU Graduate, I wanted to recognize the awesome accomplishment of the Undefeated, Sugar-Bowl Champion, University Of Utah Utes.

The Utes had an amazing season. They finished with both the Mountain West Championship and a huge win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Alabama had gone undefeated through their SEC conference play and had spent 5 weeks ranked number one in the nation. I grew up in SEC territory and know what SEC… Continue

Blog: UTA to reduce fuel surcharges

On April 1, transit fares will drop as UTA removes both fuel surcharges implemented last year in response to skyrocketing diesel fuel prices. The agency will go forward with a fare increase that was originally scheduled for January 1, but was postponed to ease the burden on riders during the current economic situation. The combined result of these changes is a decrease in UTA’s current fares. For example: the adult cash fare will drop from $2.25 to $2.00; the adult monthly pass will drop from… Continue

Blog: Discussion and Debate about proposed City Recreation Center

There are a series of open houses where residents can be informed and ask questions about the proposed Recreation Center. I encourage residents who have an opinion or would like to know more to attend. These open houses.

I have publicly made my opinion known about this or any city's recreation center.

Let me sum it up by taking a few lines from an email that I recently sent to a concerned citizen:

"I will probably not vote for the currently proposed rec center… Continue

Weekly Standard: Ten things the president got right

Bush's Achievements

Ten things the president got right.

by Fred Barnes

01/19/2009, Volume 014, Issue 17

The postmortems on the presidency of George W. Bush are all wrong. The liberal line is that Bush dangerously weakened America's position in the world and rushed to the aid of the rich and powerful as income inequality worsened. That is twaddle. Conservatives--okay, not all of them--have only been a little bit kinder. They give Bush credit for the surge… Continue

Blog: Ignorant

I am not from Utah and one of the first things that I noticed when I moved to Utah is the dual use of the word "ignorant." Outside of Utah, "ignorant" means uninformed or uneducated. The dictionary defines ignorant as “lacking knowledge or information”.

Inside Utah the word "ignorant: also means "rude." It is also pronounced "IG-nert"

I have had to adapt and adjust to languages and dialects before, so accepting a dual meaning of a word is nothing new. However, since I… Continue
